Meet The Team

Working with dogs started as a childhood dream for Ashley and grew into a lifelong passion. She began working professionally with dogs in 1994 and has continually expanded her education, earning a Bachelor's in Zoology, a Professional Dog Training Certification, and a Certificate in Behavior Consulting for Canines. In 1997, she founded Complete K-9, now known as Dogs by Foster.

With nearly three decades of experience as a trainer and behavior consultant—working with clients and veterinary clinics—Ashley remains deeply committed to continuing education. She prides herself on offering Dogs by Foster clients the most innovative, effective, humane behavior and training consulting services.

Early in her career, she was introduced to traditional, correction-based training methods but quickly realized they didn't align with her values. Determined to evolve, she transitioned to using only positive, force-free, and science-based training approaches. Dogs by Foster does not use aversive tools such as shock, prong, or choke collars, nor does it subscribe to outdated dominance or pack-theory models.

Ashley has been immersed in all facets of the "dog world" and has shared her life with a wide range of dogs, including those with significant behavioral challenges. Through it all, one thing remains most important: the relationship. Experiencing life with her dogs, not just managing them, is at the heart of everything she does. Her passion is helping others build that same deep, rewarding bond with their dogs—where understanding, trust, and teamwork create lasting success.

Monica Grimm started her career in dogs at the age of 15 when she acquired her first pet dog with challenging behavior issues. This experience created an acute interest in behavior and led her to obtain a B.S. in Biological Science and Zoology. Over the past 23 years, Monica has learned everything she can about canine behavior and force-free dog training, including some graduate work studying the population genetics of animal behavior. For the past 15 years, she has worked in dog daycare and boarding and at various veterinary clinics as a vet tech assistant, in addition to running a boutique pet supply store, Doggie Dips & Chips, In Loveland, CO. She started helping with puppy classes and shadowing Ashley Foster in 2015. Monica started training dogs and their people to help them better communicate and understand one another so they, too, can experience the depth of relationship and joy that she experiences with her dogs. In her spare time, Monica and her dogs enjoy hiking and training for various canine sports, including Barnhunt, Conformation, Mondio Ring, and Rally Obedience.
